For this term, we have two research projects:

1) Implant of Bioabsorbable Polymer in Skin of Wistar Rats
- Professor Eliana Duek

This project studies kinds of polymers degraded by hydrolysis, used for applications in the medical area as a temporary implantable device such as cutaneous healing, orthopedic devices, menisci, and others.

The main idea is that the implant of the polymer material undergoes degradation while the tissue in the defect area is repaired. The techniques to be used involve surgical procedure, anesthesia and histological analysis that proves the interaction polymer-tissue.

The student shall have basic knowledge of histology and of cells involved in inflammatory processes. The student must be able to participate in the seminars and group lectures.  The student must use the computer, because he will work with practical in the laboratory, and this include implant of the materials in animals (rats). The techniques will be introduced to the student and then he will be able to work independently, under the tutor or the lab technicians supervision. The student must be able to develop a report and a lecture at the end of the work.

Surgery skin implant of devices aiming wound healing or burned.

The student must have basic knowledge of histology and cells involved in inflammatory processes. There is no limitations related to the student involvement in the project, because he can learn the other specific subjects that may appear. There is no legal limitations.

Look for and access published papers from the laboratory on Pubmed. Key words: DUEK, EA.

From São Paulo to Sorocaba: You have to get a bus or a taxi (although it will be costy) from the International Airport (Guarulhos) to Barra Funda terminal. There are buses straight to Sorocaba from the company Cometa, they leave every 15 minutes and are around 30 reais, it's an hour and a half journey from São Paulo. Once you arrive at the Sorocaba terminal, the exchange team or your host will be there to welcome you.

In Sorocaba: Since you will all be located near our university, you can walk to your clerkship. If you need to go somewhere else, the exchange team will be glad to help
The exchange team always organize social programs for every month, the amount of programs depends of our academic duty like exams but we try our hardest. It will include going to bars, sightseeing, eat our famous "coxinha", hang out at one of the LEO/LORE's home and go to close cities from here (São Paulo, Itu).

During July and August, IFMSA Brazil has its own National Social Program - BEACH Project. You have the opportunity to visit touristic cities in our country on the weekends for a small price and all organized by our NMO. Cities are normally São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Recife, but it may change. Don't miss it!
