Montes Claros is a city located in northern Minas Gerais state, in Brazil. The population is 394,350 (2015 est.) in an area of 3569 km². It was made a seat of a municipality in 1831 and attained city status in 1857.

Darcy Ribeiro, a renowned Brazilian anthropologist, was born in Montes Claros.

The city is famous for its culinary, having many options of foods and drinks. Also there are many different bars and places to get together, meet people and have fun.

The course aims at training a professional with expertise, humanistic and ethical, contributing to the production of knowledge based on health monitoring, from the reflection and transformation of professional practice, work processes, quality of life and health of people and the population.

For professional practice, and the Pythagorean -NASPP- Health Care Center and Montes Claros Health Centers, the Aroldo Tourinho Hospital is the teaching hospital of the institution, further enhancing the teaching process.

The interdisciplinary practices extend from the first to the seventh period, when the academic develops links and is responsible for the care and monitoring of patients and families. In the eighth period, the student will have activities in emergency areas and medical emergency. The internship will take place from ninth to twelfth period, directed to the areas of medical urgencies and emergencies and training supervision in the health of women, children, internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics and mental health.
Every year there are new projects related to scientific research. Please contact someone from IFMSA LC FIPMoc for specific information on what are the researches taking place in the year.

The host student or family will provide at least one meal per day / the hospital will provide it.

Our local meal consists in bread and coffee with wilk in the morning, and lunch and dinner with rice, red beans, some kind of meat (beef, eggs, chicken, pork or fish), vegetables and salad. Also, there are lots of italian, german, french and japanese culinary references.


The incomings are alocate in students flat house, family houses or republic houses, where students share a house and create a family bound. They will have their own bed and will be provided with one bathroom that can be shared or not, and internet acess, on the house or on the college.

Transport can be made by public buses, taxis and motorcycle taxis. The public transport ticket costs actually 2,50 BRL.
To get in, you can take a flight to Belo Horizonte. Currently we have 8 daily flights between Montes Claros and Belo Horizonte.
A party with all incomings, where we exchange some typical local foods and drinks. At The Food and Drink party you get to try some Brazilian dishes and share with us your culture! And organize the NFDP with students from another LC (Funorte). 

Besides that in Montes Claros you can also find Clubs, Pubs, Bars.

Montes Claros has innumerous caves and 164 cataloged archaeological sites, among which the most important are the caves of Lapa Grande, where there is an underground river with a length of more than one kilometers. Lapa Grande is located in the Serra da Vieira, 12 kilometers from Montes Claros.

In the city itself there are several large parks, among which the most important are Parque Municipal Milton Prates, with a lake and zoo. In the rural area there is Parque Sapucaia, a forest reserve and Parque Guimarães Rosa along the banks of the Córrego Carrapato.

The climate is tropical with an annual average temperature of 24.2°C. The vegetation of the municipality is mainly Cerrado with areas of transition between cerrado and Caatinga.
