OVERVIEW
Rizk Hospital opened its doors to the general public on February 11, 1957, through the inauguration of its 1st building (Building A). It was constructed according to European standards becoming one of the first modern hospitals in Beirut and all of Lebanon. In 1987, a second building was constructed and became fully operational (Building B). Ten years later, in 1997, an expansion project was implemented with the addition of two new Buildings (C) and (D); increasing the hospital's overall accommodation capacity. These newly established buildings provided a spacious environment, facilitating an effective distribution of services for several different functions and activities within the hospital. During the same year, Rizk Hospital inaugurated a 10,000 square meter underground parking garage, offering access to 350 parking spots. In 2002, a heliport built on the roof of Building D became operational. On June 30, 2009, The Rizk Family sold the hospital to Medical Care Holding, in which the Lebanese American University (LAU) possesses controlling interests. The hospital was renamed University Medical Center – Rizk Hospital and it now serves as the primary teaching hospital for LAU's schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Now, LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital (LAUMC–RH) is a four-building 250 bed medical campus located in the heart of Beirut, which will be the principal LAU-affiliated clinical teaching and research facility. Now, it is undergoing major restructuring and expansion to transform it into a comprehensive university hospital containing several centers of excellence.
UNIVERSITY AND HOSPITALS

The Lebanese American University was founded in 1835 by American Presbyterian missionaries, and at the time it was known as the American School for Girls (ASG). In 1927, it established a 2-year junior college curriculum, which became known as the Beirut College for Women (BCW). Due to the increasing number of male students accepted, BCW later changed its name to the Beirut University College (BUC). 1994 marked BUC’s official transition from a college into a university and the institution was known as the Lebanese American University.

Though it already housed multiple faculties, it was not until September 2008 that the establishment of the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine took place. It is worthy of noting that LAU’s school of medicine is affiliated with Partners HarvardMedical International (PHMI). The Lebanese American University has acquired a major shareholder position in the Rizk Hospital University Medical Center (UMC- RH) which was founded in 1957. Rizk Hospital currently has a capacity of 250 beds, with major plans for expansion.
