Overview of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University
Xiangya Hospital is located in Changsha, Hunan province, China. Co-founded in 1906 by the Chinese government and the Yale-China Association of the United States, Xiangya Hospital (originally named “Yali Hospital”) is one of the oldest western hospitals in China, and has long enjoyed the reputation of “South Xiangya”, which means “the best hospital in southern China”. Xiangya Hospital is now a large comprehensive tertiary hospital under the direct supervision of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China, and is affiliated to Central South University, a national key university under direct supervision of the Chinese Ministry of Education. After more than a century's development, Xiangya Hospital has become a modern general hospital integrating “medical care, medical education, medical research, preventive care and rehabilitation” as well as a key center for medical treatment, medical education and medical research in China.

Dr. Feifan Tang, famous microbiologist and immunologist, was the first in the world who succeeded in the isolation of Chlamydia trachomatis and thus won a Nobel Prize nomination. Chairman Mao Zedong highly praised Xiangya for its high medical quality, and introduced family and friends to the hospital many times.
Xiangya Hospital, with full disciplines and technical strength, is among the top in the Chinese health care industry. It has 3,500 beds, 88 clinical departments and around 6,000 employees (including around 1000 retirees). In 2014, the number of outpatient and emergency visits has exceeded 2.4 million person-time, discharged patients 100,000 person-time and inpatient operations 57,000.
In recently years, Xiangya Hospital has been actively devoted to public hospital reform, and has well handled the relationship between reform and development. Its overall strength, regional influence, social reputation and position in the industry have all been significantly improved. As a public hospital, Xiangya Hospital never forgets its social responsibility. The hospital has implemented the development strategy of “running Xiangya hospitals outside Xiangya”, and has taken the lead in China in building a three-level rehabilitation medical service network. It has explored to build a new model for rural and community doctors’ training. In the past 4 years, Xiangya Hospital has established collaborative relationships with 144 community health care stations and medical organizations, and expanded its tele-medicine coverage in 9 provinces connecting with 129 hospitals. The hospital has provided professional training for 1,170 township hospital administrators and 500 community doctors. Since 2012, designated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, Xiangya Hospital has successively organized 9 national medical teams providing assistance in 5 provinces. In 2014 and 2015, Xiangya hospital took the lead in organizing the first international aid medical team of Hunan province and the fifth Chinese medical team to assist Sierra Leone to fight against Ebola.

Xiangya Hospital is in the first tier in China in terms of scientific research. In the past 4 years, a total of 1,203 projects have been funded, among which 252 projects are NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China) funded. The total funding reached nearly CNY 270 million. 2,718 research papers have been published, including 1,213 SCI-cited. The hospital has won 40 science and technology achievement awards at national, ministerial and provincial levels, and has been granted 85 patents.

As the world's longest inland river isle, Orange Isle connects the Mount Yuelu in the west and the downtown in the east, with a length of 5km and a width of 50-200 meters and a total area of 70kms.This island is fairly large, so bring your walking shoes and some water!Its an island integrated gardening, traveling, entertainment, sports, culture and commerce.If you arrive in the first half of the year, you can admire the fantastic firework there on Saturday night. There are golf carts and mini buses for people who choose not to walk (about 20yuan per person). The south end of the island has the famous statue of Chairman Mao when he was a young man. The walk there is beautiful, there are many beautiful gardens and winding paths. The north end of the island is where you will find a swimming pool, spa, and a grassy field where many music festivals take place. The most famous is the Orange Isle Music Festival which is held it the beginning of September. There will be a firework show regularly in Orange Isle.

Tianxin Pavilion Park, one of the most well-preserved ancient city remains, includes landmarks Tianxin Ancient Pavilion and ancient wall. It is located in central Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan, covering an area of 40 mu (2.668 hectares). Now the park is ranked as one of Changsha’s Four Great Ancient Historic Sites, China’s famous historic culture pavilion and national AAAA tourist attraction.
