It's 5 hours by car or 6 hours by bus from the capital São Luís (largest city of the Brazilian state of Maranhão). The capital is located on Ilha de São Luís (Saint Louis' Island) in the Baía de São Marcos (Saint Mark's Bay)
The city of Caxias is known as a "land of crystalline waters", standing out as a "future bearer city", because in its surroundings, many municipalities gravitate, being a region with a rich water table, a lot of vegetation and experiences a tropical monsoon climate from January to July with a dry season from August to December.
During the year warm to hot temperatures and abundant equatorial sunshine prevail.

GET AROUND: The city is not that big. It's easy and cheap to use the public buses to get aroung the city.
