Duhok Duhok is the capital of Duhok Governorate in Kurdistan, with a population reaching to 900,000 inhabitants, mostly consisting of Kurds, with a significant Assyrian population. The city is encircled by mountains along the Tigris river. Duhok has a growing tourist industry, its population having grown rapidly since the 1990s as the rural population moved to the cities. The University of Dohuk, founded in 1992, is a renowned center for teaching and research in Dohuk. The name Duhok means du - hok, means 2 hooks, because it lies between two mountains.

A famous resort in Iraqi Kurdistan, situated in Zaxo. It is a district and a town in Iraqi Kurdistan located a few kilometers from the Iraqi-Turkish border in the Dohuk Governorate. Pira Delal is believed to have been first built during the Roman era, while the present structure appears to be from a later date, Kurdish people all over Kurdistan visit the great Pira Delal as a monument of peace and enjoyment throughout the family. One of the legends regarding construction of the bridge relates that the hands of the builder were amputated to ensure that the bridge would remain unique.
