Overview: Ankara is the capital city and second largest metropolis of Turkey. Ankara is culturally and ethnically diverse, with a majority of young people working in varied places. The city is developed in almost all parts; including industry, agriculture, business, trade etc. Due to its location, at the heart of both Turkey and Central Anatolia, the city has coloured the architecture, life, food, fashion and arts influenced by each and every border of Turkey. Average daily temperatures in midsummer are around 30°C.
The aim of Hacettepe University is to train enlightened, research-minded, and scientifically-oriented people of integrity and good character. By reaching the overall aim, the members of this institution will utilize this outcome for the benefit of the country and society. The Faculty of Medicine has a rightly earned reputation for being not only a leader in medical studies, but also national and international research and publication according to the statistics of TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The Faculty ranks as the first in Turkey in internationally cited publications. Moreover, the graduates of the Faculty have the highest scores in TUS (The Central Examination for field of Specialisation in Medicine in Turkey)

English is required for the internship at all departments. (Please mark that: Turkish -at least upper intermediate level- is required to have an internship at Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry and some units of Internal Medicine ) For each incoming student, we assign at least one supervisor at the department that she/he is going to have an internship. That supervisor helps the student during the orientation period. Students have to ask questions to learn. Please note that the supervisors don’t show too much unless students ask questions. Working hours depend on the department and student; but usually 9am-3pm (Mon-Fri). We, as SCOPE Hacettepe, provide internships at almost all of the departments of Internal Medical Sciences and Surgical Medical Sciences Divisions.
The departments in the Internal Medical Sciences Division are: Pediatrics (There are 17 units in the Department of Pediatrics and we have a separate Children’s Hospital ), Chest Diseases , Internal Medicine (There are 9 units in the Department of Internal Medicine), Cardiology Neurology, Nuclear Medicine, Psychiatry, Oncology, Radiology and Urology. The departments in the Surgical Medical Sciences Division Emergency Medicine (Turkish is required),Anaesthesiology & Reanimation ,Pediatric Surgery, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular Surgery ,Obstetrics& Gynaecology, Otorhinolaryngology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics &Traumatology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
For the accommodation of incoming students we have arranged rooms at the student dormitories at the Sihhiye Campus in Hamamonu. These dormitories provide certain facilities for students. There are separate blocks for men and women. 2 students share one study bedroom with a mini refrigerator and each corridor shares showers and toilets. The blocks also have common rooms, TV rooms and study halls and an internet room. The dormitories share fast food eateries. There is also a launderette with ironing facility. Upon arriving at the dormitories, each student is provided with a pillow, a set of bed linens, a blanket, and a bedspread. Dormitories are just 5 min apart from hospital by walking and they are very close to city center. You can easily walk to city center –Kizilay- in 25 min or you can take subway to Kizilay, It wont take more than 10 min by subway. For our incoming students; we, as TurkMSIC Hacettepe provide one free meal per day at the Student Cafeteria at Sihhiye Campus. You are gonna stay in dormitory of Hacettepe Univercity which is very close to Hacettepe Hospital (5min. on foot). The rooms are for two individuals (for girls) and four individuals (for boys). There are studying table, wordrobe wich has three parts for each person and a small fridge. Toilets and bathrooms are not in the rooms but you will find them each floor. On each floor we have three toilet and shower cabin. You will have hot water for 24 hours everyday. There is also a kitchen on each floor as a shared area. You can cook your meal in there but there isn't any soucepans, spoons or detergents. So you should get them own. There isn't ant hairdryer. But we have washing machines on ground floor and also there is a canteen. A particular day in a week, there is house keepers who clean your rooms. It is forbidden to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes in the rooms. Therefore you should be careful about it. The kitchen for mens is on ground floor and its very huge. Both boys and girls may use it.
You can get on BelkoAir or Havas Buses at the airport. BelkoAir will take you to Kizilay and Havas will take you to ASTI. You should go to the metro "ANKARAY", to the Dikimevi way. Get off at Kurtulus and ask the Hacettepe Universitesi Hospital. Everyone can easily show you or tell you. Or just call! We can easily take you from there.

Ankara has several historic buildings and landmarks, mostly concentrated around Ulus. On a quick visit, one can get a taste of most important historic places in a day long trip. If you have even less time, two never to miss places are Anitkabir and Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. For longer stays, Ankara has lot’s to offer as the modern capital of Turkey.Ankara Castle, Cengelhan - Rahmi Koc Museum, Museum of Anatolian Civilizations are all 5 minutes of walking distance, and very close to Ethnographic Museum, State Art and Sculpture Museum, Haci Bayram Mosque, Salt Ulus, Augustus Temple and Roman Baths; all of which are located in Ulus.
You should also visit Presidential Complex, Grand National Assembly of Turkey for awaring of unique identity of the capital. You could take a travel around parks: Kugulu, Segmenler... The city has a lots of operas, ballets, theaters, orchestras, exhibitions events. We recommend that these events should be seen at least once. Several of the biggest universities of Turkey are in Ankara, whose campus should be seen. Milli Kütüphane is the National Library of Turkey, located in Ankara.
