Our university is located in Hamamatsu city. It's surrounded by great nature, and you'll see thousands of stars in the sky at night time. We have few means of public/private transportation. It's not really cold even in winter. We have strong winds all year around.  Most students in our university play sports for a university sport team, have part time jobs, have to study a lot for exams. Many students have a car, and they drive to go to grocery. A lot of students live in an apartment near the university. They usually walk or ride a bicycle to go the school.

Hamamatsu University School of Medicine has only school of medicine and school of nursing. The hospital is located right beside the university. In the university we have many club activities. Most students belong to one or two of the university sport teams and engage in practicing after school.   Some students eat lunch at cafeteria, and some bring lunch from home.

You'll receive ¥15,000 of pocket money, intended for meals.  In our university most students eat lunch at school cafeteria or bring lunch from home. Most dishes cost less than 500 yen. There is a convenience store and next to school cafeteria. You can also use wide convenience store in the University hospital. You can eat freshly baked breads. We recommend you to try "premium hama-med anpan". Anpan is Japanese popular bread with bean paste.

You'll most likely stay at a student flat. You'll either have your own room or share an apartment room with another exchange student. There isn't a wifi connection at the student flat. You have to go to school to get a wifi. It may be so inconvenient, so we recommend you to bring portable wifi from your country. Other detailed instructions are listed other documents.

If you arrive at Narita airport, the easiest way to get to Hamamatsu is to take the train "Narita express 12" to Tokyo Station, then take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Hamamatsu station. You can take either "Hikari" or "Kodama"  but you cannot take "Nozomi". It takes you about 3 hours from Narita to Hamamatsu. It costs you about 10000 yen.

We will be having at least 7 social programs each month including the welcome and the farewell party. In July, you can enjoy the fireworks festival wearing yukatas or go to the Hamana Lake and have a barbecue party. In January, you can try mochitsuki, a traditional mochi-pounding ceremony or go for a strawberry picking at Hamamatsu fruit park. We can also take you to "Miho no Matsubara", one of the world heritage where you can see the beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. Try many Japanese food on weekdays, you'll love it.

Hamamatsu Air Park is a military museum where you get to see various types of jet planes, try the simulator plane, and wear the uniform all for free. We would also like to recommend Ryugashido Cavern,  limestone cave which is said to be formed 250 million years ago. The amazing structures and waterfalls are the highlights of the visit. If you want to go to a nice relaxing place, Nukumori no Mori will take you to a world of a fairy tale. It has gardens, galleries, shops, restaurant and cafe.
