TRANSPORTATION

Transport in Girona is accomplished by road, train, buses and plane.

1st day: from the airport to Girona

To arrive to Girona from Barcelona’s or Girona’s airport there are many buses and trains (aprox 1 hour and a half far), but don’t worry because your Contact Person will explain you exactly how to arrive depending on your flight arrival hour. They will pick you up at the bus or train station and bring you to the residence.

From the residence to the Hospital

The hospital Jospep Trueta is located in the north of the city whereas the student hostel is in the south. It is 4,2 km away from the residence. You can go by foot, bicycle or by bus. In this case, you have to take the line 2 (Trueta hospital direction). The stop is really near from the residence, about 1-2 minutes by walking from the residence. It takes to 20-30 minutes. And it stopped near the hospital.
Here I link the schedule of buses from residence to Trueta Hospital:http://www.girona.cat/bus/docs/L2.pdf
City’s transportation is based on the urban buses which cost 1,4 € one single trip.

Once in Girona

It has a very good communication to France (55 minutes by local train). It has also a good connection to Barcelona (It depends on the train you take that goes form 1hour or 35 minutes). The local ones cost 6€ one way more or less. The website of the train is this one http://www.renfe.com/.

If your desire is to go to the coast the better choice is going by bus. Here it is the website of the buses and it tells you the time and the price. http://www.teisa-bus.com/. The prices are 8€ more or less, depending on the city you want to go.

You can also rent a car in the airport. Because Girona is linked to many highways, it is a good option if you want to go to the Pirineus Mountains. In fact, Girona is near a small hill (300m) but for two hour by car you can go to beautiful mountain and there is only three hours to arrive to Núria Mountains (2900m). Moreover, if you rent a car you can easily go everywhere in the Mediterranean coast.

Another option is to rent a bicycle; there are plenty of roads for cycling. In fact, there is a special road for bicycling that goes from Girona to San Feliu de Guixols (a Mediterranean Sea village). It takes about 4 hours by bicycle. Furthermore, Girona is a nice place to go walking in the city. And things are very near to each other.
