OVERVIEW
Welcome to the beautiful city of Kingston, Ontario. One of Canada’s oldest and most beloved city, home to the original parliament and military college. The city truly comes alive in summer with outdoor movies, great patios, shopping, and festivals. If you are a fan of water, the nearby Thousand Islands is great place to visit by boat tour, or by canoe or kayak that can be rented along the water. The gorgeous Queen’s University offers visitors a wonderful place to take photos or just chill back at a campus pub. You will definitely love your time in the quaint city of Kingston!
UNIVERSITY AND HOSPITALS
Kingston is considered a "hospital and university town", which means that all of our students are exposed to large volumes and high acuity cases in a very hands-on setting. It is a very learner-friendly environment, with students actively being engaged in the clinical process during their time in hospital.

Our health care centres where students may be placed include:
Kingston General Hospital
Hotel Dieu Hospital
Kingston Cancer Centre
RESEARCH PROJECTS AND LABS
Queen's Univeristy is currently not accepting incoming SCORE students.
BOARDING
The student will be provided $100 pocket money for food and other necessities upon arrival. No boarding is provided and daily meals are the responsibility of the student.
LODGING
Lodging will be arranged by the LEOs, typically in the apartment or house of one of our students. All accomodation will be within easy access distance to the hospitals, university, and downtown.
TRANSPORTATION
Pickup is available from the aiport, train, or bus station.
Within Kingston, the hospitals/accomodations are all within walking distance, but excellent public transport also exists.
SOCIAL PROGRAM
Please contact your LEOs if there is anything you're interested in seeing or doing! They would be more than happy to show you around the city.
Our Social Committee Lead plans several events including boat cruises, restaurant tours, exploring the city, and water activities such as kayaking on the lake. Depending on the time of your visit during the summer, there will be many different events within the city, from outdoor festivals to free concerts and fairs!
MUST SEE
Fort Henry, Kingston Penitentiary and Museum, Wolfe Island, and our many fantastic restaurants are all great places to see in the "Limestone City". Rent a paddleboard, watch a movie in City Square, have a drink on one of our many patios, learn to rock climb-- the possibilities are endless in Kingston! There are many great outdoor adventures to be had as the hospitals are steps from the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Kingston is ideally located on the US-Canada border, with easy access to major cities in both countries such as Toronto, Ottawa, New York, and Boston! Ask your LEO/SCL for more details on how to book trips to these places.
Our medical school students are very close-knit, and many choose to stay in Kingston during the summer months. You will be welcomed into the community and we hope you leave with many new friends!!
