It is MANDATORY to speak fluent spanish due to all our clerkships will take place in spanish. Clearkship could be cancelled to students who do not meet this requirement.
Clerkship Type
- Clinical Clerkship
A clinical clerkship is defined as the rotation of a student in a clinical department of a hospital or clinic, such as Dermatology and Pediatrics.
Required level of studies
We only accept students that are taking or have taken clinical courses in their universities. Our program only offer clinical courses.

Even if accepted by the hosting country, students must be still enrolled in university by the time the Application Form is sent.

Academic Quality

We require a fluent level of spanish. No language certificate required. The students will be place in the best hospital in our national health system, the Hospital Escuela Universitario (HEU) in Tegucigalpa, which specializes in teaching medical students. The hours per day could vary from one department to another.

Nightshifts will only be available in emergency departments, and will be eligible to all students no matter which department they chose to do their clerkship. Nightshifts are available 7 days a week. 

Incoming Students MUST bring their own Student Handbooks and hand them to their hosting professors on the 1st day of their clerkship. More than 80 percent of the attendance and filled Student Handbooks are compulsory to receive the certificate.

Social Program
Social programs are arranged by the Local and National Committee. We will have activities for every incoming. Programming will included welcome party, visiting restaurant, bars, clubs, museums, nearby cultural villages, nearby natural parks and other activities.

UAT with dinner will be provided by host LC. For the rest of activities incoming students have to pay to participate.

National social program will be avaiable in July, August and any other month with enough incoming students and it will be at the cost of both SCOPE IFMSA-Honduras and the students.

Unilateral Fee: Will be paid to the NEO the first week of arrival.
Visa requirements

Most of the students from different countries do not need a Visa to get in Honduras. However, the student must check their visa requirements by searching for 'Visa Policy of Honduras’ online. If it is necessary, the student should apply for a TOURIST Visa (student or working Visa is not needed).

We can provide an invitation letter and other documents if required or necessary.

Upon Arrival documents

The standard documents are the basic documents that the students are asking for and the special documents are less important, as only some Local Committees ask for them. So it's mandatory to upload the standard documents, but not the special ones. (Students do it when asked for by the LEO/NEO.)
The upon arrival documents are hard copies documents that the students are requested to take with them in the host country.”
Immunization requirements
To be sent in the Immunisation Record:
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus, influenza and thyphoid vaccines are required.
If you come through Panama, Colombia or any other country in South America you will have to take Yellow Fever vaccine due to immigration laws.

Insurance
We only require health insurance with coverage in Honduras. Travel and accident insurances are highly recommended. 

Mala practice or liability insurance are not required.

Substitutes must be for the same period, same department and same sex. If the time is over whenever the first student cancels the clerkship; the contract will be considered as "used", since we have to arrange everything for the student at least a month and a half before his/her arrival.

Special remarks

The students will have board and lodging only between the specified dates. If you wish to arrive a few days before or leave after the dates specified, please let us know with at least a month in advance.

Change of host family is not allowed.

Behavior and Rules Due to prior experiences, we kindly ask you to respect our conditions. Even as an exchange student you are expected to attend all required classes and to work in the hospital like everyone else (standard: 8 hours). Non-compliance is considered rude and imprudent, we reserve the right to send students home if we receive complaints from the hospital and the doctors in charge, or your hosting family and contact person.
